The library ‐ the treasure house of books and periodicals ‐ is a centre of intellectual activity of any institution. The MIT, which is imparting advanced level courses and undertaking research programmes in vital technical areas. The MIT library, strives to its readers n the interest of creativity and innovation, the predecessors of Research and Development.
The library started along with the institution in the year 1949. The library has a carpet area of 1690 sqm with a reading space of 690 sqm. The library was headed by eminent German Scientist Tmt. Herta Filipowskya for the period (1951 ‐ 1953). It is followed by the eminent scientist namely Thiru R. Venkataraman (1953 ‐ 1955), Thiru R. Thrivikraman (1955 ‐ 1957), Thiru N.S. Subbanarayanan (1957 ‐ 1962), Dr. S. Surya Prakash (1962 ‐ 1964), Thiru K.N.V. Raman (1964 ‐ 74) worked as Honorary Librarians. In the year 1974, Thiru S. Pichuraman (1974 ‐ 1990) has taken charge as Librarian and served for more than a decade.
In the year 1978, this library formed as part of Anna University since MIT is a constitution institution of Anna University. The following eminent professors Dr. A. Ramakrishnan (Sept 1990 ‐ July 94), Dr. K. Padmanaban (Aug 1994 ‐ Dec 1994), Dr. P. Baskaran (Jan 1995 ‐ June 1995), Dr. Ponnammal Natarajan (July 1995 ‐ Dec 1998), Dr. K. Jayaraman (Jan 1999 ‐ July 1999), Dr. Sri Hari Nagore (Aug 1999 ‐ Mar 2004), Dr. S. Krishnamurthy (April 2004 ‐ June 2004) ,Dr. S. Subramaniam (June 2004 ‐ Nov. 2005) and Dr.P.Manohar (Nov 2005 – July 2010) served as Professor-in-Charge of the Library. In July 2010, Dr. M.Ganesh Madhan has taken charge as Professor-in-Charge. The library has around 10 qualified Library professionals serving the users.
It has a well-equipped library stacking nearly 82,923 volumes of choice books in various engineering subjects and basic sciences. The library subscribes to 100 periodicals. Besides, the library has 10,500 bound volumes of periodicals and 10,000 Standards. Environmental Information DVD/VCD were added to the library collection. During the year 2015-16, around 1530 books were added .
The MIT library has special services like Book Bank (for SC/ST Students), Founder's Family Book Bank, Reprography Service, Video facility, IEEE Student Branch Library and Information Retrieval Systems through Intranet. The other services provided by the library includes Lending service, Reference service, Inter Library Loan, Internet Browsing, Current Awareness Service (CAS), and Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) Service.
A separate Digital Knowledge Centre has been established in order to enable the users to browse the e-journals, e-learning materials, digital library collections of this campus and other online journals. On line E-resources include IEEE, Science Direct and Scopus. This facility is available in the intranet of this campus.
Recently, RF ID based library automation has been carried out. This provides RF ID based book transaction, self check in and self check out facility. A drop box for return of the books after working hours is also introduced.
Online Public Access Catalog: This feature will indicate the availability of book, which you are interested.
You can also find the due date for the particular book, if borrowed already.
National Digital Library
It provides contents from all the institutional Digital Repositories (IDR) and other digital library initiatives and National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) projects in the National Digital Library Server. The e contents can be searched and accessed in the full test by the users through single window.

2. More than 40 types of learning resources
3. 13,00,000 + items authored by 100 000 authors
4. Items in more than 70 languages.
