The Department has research programs leading to M.S and Ph.D Degrees. The faculty in the Department concentrates on three major field of Aeronautical Engineering viz., Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structures and Propulsion. The Department has the potential to carry out research in Composite Structures, Computational Mechanics, Non – Destructive Testing. In recent past Department has taken up several projects from various funding agency and the details of which are given. Also the faculty has carried out several projects through Centre for Aerospace Research. The Department staff has collaborative research with Prof. Yukio Tamura, Tokyo Polytechnic University through J.S.P.S (Japan Society for Promotion of Science), Government of Japan. Also the Department has taken steps in having collaborative research activities and staff student exchange programmes with Tokyo Polytechnic University, Japan and University of Stuttgart, Germany. To improve more research activities, a Chair in Memory of Prof. K.A.V.Pandalai, a former Professor and Head, Department of Aerospace Engineering, has been created in the year 2000 with the financial support from Aeronautical Research and Development Board (AR&DB) Ministry of Defence.
