The
Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), a constituent
Institution of Anna University was founded by Th. C. Rajam on 18th
July 1949 and has just entered into its 50th year. A year long
Golden Jubilee Celebration is proposed and
the celebration was inaugurated at a grand function held at MIT campus,
Bharat Ratna Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam
, Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, Government of India
and an illustrious alumnus of MIT and the National President of the Golden
Jubilee Committee delivered a special address during this occasion. In
his address, he highlighted the potential of engineering and technology
for national development.
The launching of PSLV by ISRO, missiles by DRDO and the recent blasts
at Pokhran have shown the might of technology and that the country has
mastered these well, he said. He also called the youth to assume the responsibility
of transforming India from a developing country to a developed one. He
also released the Golden Jubilee issue of the magazine "Saaral" and the
first copy was handed over to Dr.V.C.Kulandaiswamy, former Vice-Chancellor
of Anna University. The Hon’ble Minister for Education,
Govt. of Tamilnadu, Prof.K.Anbazhagan inaugurated the Golden Jubilee
Celebration and unveiled plaques for the Ladies hostel and Students Centre
.
Mr.A.M.M.Arunachalam, Industrialist, in his presidential address
read in absentia emphasised the need for team sprit for achieving better
results. Our Vice-Chancellor Padmashri R.M.Vasagam listed the various programmes
of the Golden Jubilee activities.
Dr.V.C. Kulandaiswamy, former Vice-Chancellor, Mr.V.Balasubramaniam,
grandson of the founder of MIT, Mr.P.S.Subramaniam an alumnus of MIT, feliciated
the celebration. Dr.S.Ganapathy, Dean of MIT, welcomed the gathering. Dr.R.Jegadeesan,
Registrar, readout the messages received on the occasion. Mr.Andrew Benjamin
Ray, a final year student of the automobile engineering, recited a poem
in tamil composed on MIT. Mr.C.J.G.Chandra, Mr. Senthamil Arasu and Mr.K.B.Medappa,
all MIT Alumni were among those who spoke on the occasion.
