CENTRAL LIBRARY

Introduction

        The Library - the treasure house of books and periodicals - is a centre of intellectual activity of any institution.  The MIT Library has about 50,000 volumes consisting of books, bound volumes of periodicals, reports and standard specifications on stock and subscribes to 274 periodicals, in a number of areas and subjects pertaining to the courses offered and research work carried out at MIT.  A limited collection of material of general interest is also available. 
 

Membership

        The membership is open to all students, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, technical and administrative staff.
 

How to become a member:

STUDENTS:

        The library will prepare the borrowers cards and keep ready for issue to the new students as soon as the Roll Numbers are allotted to them by the office. 

TEACHING STAFF

        The library will prepare borrower's cards as soon as the library gets the information from the office regarding their appointment. 

NON-TEACHING STAFF

        Issue of library tickets is on specific application which should be forwarded by the respective Heads of School/Dept/Divisions/Librarian. 


RESEARCH SCHOLARS

        Issue of library tickets is on application which should duly be recommended by the guide and forwarded by the concerned Head of Department.

CLASSIFICATION

        Books are classified as per subject by Universal Decimal Classification Scheme and periodicals by placement numbers.  More details are displayed in respective stack rooms. 

MITALS  (MIT Automated Library System)

        This library has installed computers for information Network Systems in the year 1990.  This library has one file server and 2 work stations, one at the Service counter, and the other for information retrieval by students.  It is a menu driven, interactive, user-friendly package designed with utmost care to meet the students information needs, such as the availability of books, status of the books, user details etc. 
 

Special Services Offered

BOOK BANK

        A Special book bank consisting of multiple copies of text books prescribed for various courses of text books prescribed for various courses is available for use by the economically weaker sections of the students and they may contact the Librarian for more details. 

REPROGRAPHY

        Limited Reprographic service is available on payment.  The charges currently are Re.0.50/- per page without paper and Re.0.35/- per page with paper subject to copyright restrictions. 

MICROFORM DOCUMENT

      Microform Document reading and reproduction facility is available.  The charges currently are Rs.1.25/- per copy for taking copies from negative mode and Rs.2.50 per copy for taking copies from positive mode. 

VIDEO FACILITY

        The library has acquired a fair number of video lessons and the screening facility is available in the library. 

IEEE Student Branch Library

        105 IEEE Journals are received by this library.  These journals are only for reference in the library. 

Article Alert Service

        List of important articles form the journals received in the MIT library is displayed in the notice board. 

SEMINAR-CUM-WORKSHOP

  • Seminar-cum-workshop on "Computerised Information Retrieval" (1987)
  • Seminar-cum-workshop on "Effective Utilisation of books" (1989)
  • Seminar-cum-workshop on "Effective role of library in engineering education" (1990)
  • Seminar on "Library for 21st Century"  organised in connection with Birth Centenary of Dr. S.R. Renganathan (Father of Library science) (1992).
  • Seminar on "Recent trends in Information Retrieval" (1997)
        This library provides a good quantum of service not only to its 993 clientele but also acts as good resources centre for other engineering collages.  The choicely collection of documents are really appreciated by the alumnus. 

        It has started building up CD-ROM disks with the available budget resource.
