The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is a pioneer venture in the field of Technological Education. The development of the countrys economic conditions which had long remained at low ebb for various historical reasons, assumed a special importance and urgency. The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is the result of realization on the part of some far seeing engineers and industrialists that the solution of many of the pressing problems of economic, industrial and social welfare lie in the application of modern Science and technology.

Started on 18th July 1949 with the help of public spirited Donors headed by the founder, Sri C.Rajam, an eminent industrialist who donated Rs 5 lakhs, the MIT has since developed with the help of the central and Madras State Governments into an All India Institution known for its contribution of specialized scientific cum-technical man-power to the countrys industrial and economic advancement.
